Gary Man Injured In U.S. 30 & Ind. 13 CrashPIERCETON - A Gary man injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning also was cited for disregarding a traffic signal.
At approximately 8:48 a.m. Friday, a crash was reported at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 13, according to information provided by Pierceton Town Marshal Jim Bumbaugh.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Nissan Sentra, driven by Henry Alfred, 46, of Gary, was traveling east on U.S. 30, approaching the intersection with Ind. 13. Witnesses reported the Nissan disregarded the red traffic light and collided with a 2019 Chevy Silverado, driven by Ian Poston, 46, North Manchester. Poston was turning west on U.S. 30 from Ind. 13 when he hit the right side of the Nissan Sentra as it passed through the intersection, according to Bumbaugh.
Alfred was unable to exit his vehicle and was extricated by the Pierceton Fire Department. He suffered cuts to the head and face and complained of back pain. Lutheran EMS transported Alfred to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital for treatment.
Poston was not injured.
The intersection was partially blocked in all directions while emergency personnel worked the scene, according to information provided.
Alfred was cited for disregarding a traffic signal.
Damage to both vehicles was estimated between $25,000 to $30,000.
Assisting at the scene were the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Pierceton Fire and Lutheran EMS.
