Garnet A. Latimer, 96, of Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, and formerly of the Burket and Mentone community, died at 4:20 p.m. July 3, 2010, in Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake.
She was born April 20, 1914, in Whitley County, to Henry and Hattie Anders Kiefer. On April 20, 1936, in Claypool, she married Wilbur W. Latimer, who died Nov. 14, 1996.
A homemaker and a nurse, she worked at Murphy Medical Center, Warsaw. She graduated from Burket High School. She was a member of Burket United Methodist Church, where she was active in prayer and share; Seward Township Home Economics Club; and the Order of the Eastern Star of Mentone for more than 50 years. She was a Red Cross volunteer, where she was in charge of the Blood Mobile; a Gray Lady working in nursing homes; and a 4-H leader in the Burket, Mentone and Beaver Dam communities.
Surviving are two daughters, Wilburta Baker, Pierceton, and Karen Thomas, Winona Lake; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at King Memorial Home, 101 North Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Jeff Pfiefer officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
