NORTH MANCHESTER — Garl “Pete” Young, 95, North Manchester, died at 1 a.m. Sept. 7, 2018, in Peabody Healthcare Center.
He was born July 4, 1923, in Wabash County, to Otto P. and Mabel E. Wall Young. He was married to Veradawn Bashore on July 15, 1945. She died May 16, 1996.
From 1955 to 1967 he was employed with the former Pyramid Oil Co. in North Manchester. He was employed with Kosciusko County Highway Department from 1967 until his retirement in 1988.
He lived in the North Manchester area until 1967, when he moved to Warsaw. He lived in Warsaw until 2003, when he returned to North Manchester.
He attended Peabody Chapel.
Pete had a passion for motorcycles and was an avid outdoorsman, including his love for fishing. Always working with his hands, he built birdhouses and was always making little improvements to his home.
His positive energy and never having a negative bone in his body was evident to all who knew him. He loved his grandson and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Lennie Lee (Sandra) Young, Warsaw; a grandson, Adam (Latasha) Young, Claypool; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; two brothers, Paul Young and Howard Young; and three sisters: Agatha Hippensteel, Wanda Parr and Juanita Bechtold.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in Peabody Chapel, 400 W. Seventh St., North Manchester. Pastor David Crowley will officiate, and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
