Garber Files for Vacant County Seat

Posted
Former Warsaw parks superintendent Jon Garber has become the third person to put his name in for the vacant District 4 KosciuskoâCounty Council seat.

Garber will seek the position, along with George Klinger and Kelly Prater, at a May 1 caucus.

Garber, a Claypool resident, is a lifetime Kosciusko County resident.

Starting in high school, Garber has been employed with the parks department.

After graduating with a degree in political science from Indiana University, he worked for the department full time.

He attended graduate school at I.U. for public administration in parks and recreation in 1997-1998.

He’s currently working as a poll worker for early/absentee voting.

He’s also a former precinct committeeman for Warsaw District 2-1.

He’s also served as a delegate for the county to the Republican state convention several times.

He is a member of First United Methodist Church in Warsaw.

In a letter to precinct committeemen, Garber wrote, “When I completed my tenure as Warsaw Parks and Recreation superintendent in December 2011, I stated in a letter in the Kudos column of the Warsaw Times-Union that although I was ‘retiring’ from my position, it was my hope to find an opportunity to continue giving back to a community for which it had been an honor to serve.  The opportunity has now unveiled itself.

“If elected, I promise to be fiscally conservative, yet progressive in thought, as a rapidly growing Kosciusko County moves forward,” wrote Garber.

The caucus will take place at the Munson Building, 217 N. Lake St., Warsaw.

Interested eligible candidates for the council seat must file a declaration of candidacy form with Kosciusko County Republican Chairman Randall Girod no later than 72 hours before the caucus.

Forms are available at the Kosciusko County Clerk’s office.
