MENTONE – Gael C. Johnson, 76, Mentone, died at 9:35 p.m. Feb. 12, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. He was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Kosciusko County, to J. Clyde and Parentha V. Kindig Johnson. He was an employee of R.R. Donnelley as well as being a farmer and a truck driver. He graduated in 1955 from Beaver Dam High School. He loved training and riding horses as well as hunting. He was the first double-lung transplant ever performed at I.U. Med Center and the oldest living lung transplant recipient. Surviving are his companion, Bonnie J. Cleveland, Mentone; two daughters, Shasta A. (and spouse Mike) Corcoran, Fort Worth, Texas, and Shana S. (and spouse Nick) Hanks, Amarillo, Texas; two sons, Dannie J. Johnson, Liberal, Kan., and Jay A. (and spouse Jeanette) Johnson, Haslet, Texas; four grandchildren; Bonnie’s three children: Teresa Cosgrove, Lake Placid, Fla.; Mark (and spouse Cindy) Lingofelter, Nappanee; Penni Cloud, Elkhart; and Bonnie’s seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Enyart. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at King Memorial Home, 101 N.
