For the third time this year, Brian “Lightning Bolt” Johnson and the Funkdafied Wrestling Federation are promoting a show in Warsaw.
Johnson, a 2001 Warsaw Community High School graduate and former basketball player for the Tigers, will grapple with FWF owner and current cruiserweight champion J.D. Smooth Saturday in a steel cage.
The match, the headliner on a card known as Bash At Boggs, will take place at Warsaw Little League Park.
The first match of the evening, said Johnson, is scheduled to start at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The last time the FWF promoted a show in Warsaw it set the Delaware-based organization’s attendance record.
“This is our fourth show in Warsaw, our third one this year,” said Johnson. “Our No. 1 goal is to entertain the fans. When you see the kids, and the adults, with a smile on their face, you know you’re doing your job. We’ve had a great turnout every time we’ve had a show in Warsaw, and I’m expecting the same Saturday.”
From T-ball to Pony League, Johnson said he played nine seasons in the Warsaw Little League.
Saturday’s event will also serve as a fundraiser for Warsaw Little League.
At a previous show in Warsaw, FWF raised more than $1,000 for Baker Youth Clubs.
“In our business, the fans are No. 1,” said Johnson. “It’s our job to entertain them, but we also like to give back. I grew up here. I played nine seasons of Little League, between T-ball and my last year of Pony League. Lance Leeper is a friend of mine, and he does a great job with Warsaw Little League. I want to be able to help them out.”
Among the other scheduled matches is a 10-man battle royal.
Tickets for the event are $15 each and can be be purchased at the gate, or by calling Johnson at 732-551-0906.
“This is a big event for Warsaw Little League,” said Johnson. “I’m excited about helping them out, and getting in the steel cage with J.D. Smooth. “Fans aren’t going to want to miss this.”
