So Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau Inc. has money to start with in 2004, the county council approved approximately $57,000 of the CVB Inc.'s 2004 budget Thursday.
Larry Teghtmeyer, county councilman, made the motion to appropriate the amount equal to the CVB's first quarter 2004 budget for the operation of the CVB. The motion was unanimously approved.
Teghtmeyer said he anticipates that the CVB commission will reorganize with its newly appointed members sometime after Jan. 1 and the county council can approve more funds for the CVB at a later date.
The annual CVB budget is approximately $332,000, depending on the amount of tax dollars received through the innkeepers' tax.
Teghtmeyer said despite the innuendo going around, the county council is not trying to preclude any entities from receiving grants from the CVB. In the last 11 years, he said, the CVB has given out grants totaling only approximately $57,000, or about $5,200 per year.
