An open house and?fundraiser to help defray travel expenses for a local CrossFit athlete is planned Friday.
CrossFit Haymaker, 795 W. Market St., Warsaw, will host the fundraiser from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will help with expenses incurred by Bryan Wong, Warsaw, who has qualified for two CrossFit Sanctional events – one in Dublin, Ireland, and the other in Miami.
Top finishers in these events will be invited to compete against national champions and the top 20 Open finishers at the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games in Madison, Wisc.
Cost of the cash-only event is $10 and includes a chili cookoff, a raffle and a silent auction. Items to be raffled off include more than $2,000 in fitness gear.
Attendees can choose their favorite chili with a $1 vote.
CrossFit Haymaker owner Ryan Hill said the event also serves as an open house for the gym. The public is invited to take this opportunity to learn about CrossFit and the programming available at the local gym.
Wong is an accomplished CrossFit athlete who has placed in the top 20 in past regional competitions.
Wong is unique in that many of the athletes he competes against either own gyms or have sponsors and work full-time at CrossFit.
Wong and his wife, Tara, have two children, Nova, 3, and Nash, 7 months, and he is a manufacturing engineer at Medtronic in Warsaw.
