One man was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle accident Friday night.

Derek J. Aguilar-Hardy, 23, of Nappanee, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Kosciusko County Coroner John Sadler on Ind. 13, just south of CR 900N near North Webster. He suffered massive head injuries in the accident.

A passenger in Aguilar-Hardy's gold 2001 Ford Ranger, William E. Prevatt Jr., 21, of Nappanee, was taken to Goshen General Hospital in stable condition and later released.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, around 11:19 p.m. Friday the pickup, driven by Aguilar-Hardy, left the eastern edge of Ind. 13 for an unknown reason. Aguilar-Hardy returned to the roadway then overcorrected and left the eastern edge of the road again, rolling over and throwing both occupants out of the pickup.

The accident remains under investigation by the KCSD.

The North Webster Police Department, Indiana State Police, Syracuse Police Department, Syracuse Fire Department, Syracuse EMS, Kosciusko County coroner and Lutheran Air Ambulance assisted at the scene of the accident.

Police said toxicology tests would be performed to determine if alcohol was a factor.
