Lance Cpl. David K. Fribley, a Warsaw native, died in combat March 23, 2003, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, while taking part in the battle for An-Nasiriya.
The Peacetime/Wartime Support Team at the U.S. Marine Reserve Center, Grissom Air Reserve Base, Peru, will honor Fribley's contribution and sacrifice at an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lakeview Middle School auditorium, Warsaw. During the ceremony, Fribley's parents, Garry and Linda, will receive the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, which was awarded to him posthumously. The ceremony is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
Fribley, a U.S. Marine, was a member of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, which was assigned to Task Force Tarawa.
Fribley is a 1996 Warsaw Community High School graduate.
