"Come on down, the price is riiiiiiiight!"
Bob Barker wasn't at the Ninth Annual Warsaw Community High School Renaissance Recognition Convocation Thursday, but this year's theme was "Education Make$ Cent$. The Price I$ Right."
The annual event recognizes many students who achieved greatly in the areas of attendance, citizenship and academics, as well as teachers, staff and volunteers for their work. Besides certificates, trophies and medals, students also had opportunities to win prizes ranging from candy bars to a car.
Approximately 81 WCHS students who had perfect attendance during the 2003-04 school year were eligible to win the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, courtesy of Bart's Car Store Inc. This year's winner was freshman Kelly Lawlor, who expects to get her license in November.
Winning laptop computers with printers, donated by Biomet, were sophomore Melissa Piazza and senior Holly Durcholz. They were two of four students whose names were drawn randomly from all students with an A grade point average. An A GPA is 10 or higher on a 12-point scale. The four students then competed in a "Price Is Right"-styled game where they had to estimate the value of the groceries on a table, and the two students closest to the actual price won the computers. The other two students won the groceries and gift certificates.
