NAPPANEE – Freida Louise Bowers, 103, died May 5, 2011, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa. She was born Oct. 10, 1907, in Nappanee, to Amos and Maude Ruppert Miller. On Feb. 14, 1926, in Nappanee, she married Harrison E. Bowers, who died in May 1976. Living most of her life in this area, she was a 1925 Nappanee High School graduate, and she and her husband owned the Boston Stores in Nappanee for many years. She was a member of First Brethren Church, Nappanee, where she also was secretary for the advisory board for 30 years, chairperson for the Ladies Sewing Ministry for many years and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Surviving are a son, David (and spouse Joanne) Bowers, Nappanee; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. May 12 at Union Center Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Schiefer officiating. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. June 4 at First Brethren Church, Nappanee. Calling is one hour prior to the service.
