I have to appreciate you Mrs. Bell, for condemning a person who would dismiss a person's argument because of a person's socio-economic status.
As someone who believes in our Republic - I am a firm believer that we have a right to disagree and co-exist as neighbors at the same time. I am aware of your reasoning; I have a hard time accepting your argument.
In a true Republic, freedom and responsibility are perfectly balanced. As long as we live our lives with a sense of responsibility, ourgovernment should give us the freedom to live our lives. You believe that the county should have told everyone to not drive during a blizzard and that is your opinion. Will you concede the fact that many people stayed at home without being told that driving on our county roads was probably unsafe? I made a personal choice, of my free will, that I would travel to work while a blizzard was going on. Had I got into an accident, any letter I would have written would have pointed out the fact that I screwed up, drove out in a blizzard and owned up to my mistake. If people exercise a little common sense, we can be free, but be responsible for our actions.
I constantly see this argument about how we need to be told what to do, or who is to blame for what is going on. It is no different than Robert Betances constantly blaming the Republican Party for this or that. Yet I can take what he writes, change a few words, and blame the Democrats. Or Janet Collins blaming the Tea Party, yet she cannot give an example of a violent Tea Party protest.
Mike Shirey is mad that I called President Obama names. Yet candidate Obama promised to close Gitmo, end bailing out "Wall Street Fat cats," would get a pair of comfortable shoes and stand with union workers if elected president, would end the Patriot Act. As President Obama, he's kept Gitmo opened, gave more money to the same Fat Cats, is nowhere near protesting with union workers in Milwaukee and has extended the Patriot Act. I do not know what Mr. Shirey's definition of liar is, but President Obama is just as big of liar as George W. Bush ever was.
Or Tom Metzger beating the "Separation of Church and State" drum, yet he needs to research the Aitken's Bible, which was approved by Congress. All the First Amendment will state is that there will be no Church of the United States - like the Church of England.
Let us not forget all of the people wanting to make PSE a prescription only - which for now will not be coming to Indiana. People need to learn to accept responsibility for their actions. I say people need to make better choices of their own free will, not be told what to do.
Mrs. Bell, I appreciate your warm wishes for my success - I just hope that you see my position that nanny state logic is not needed, just a little more responsibility in our lives.
