Thanksgiving dinners around the county served about the same number of people as last year, organizers said today.
The largest of the free dinners, sponsored by the Warsaw Elks Lodge, served slightly more than 600 people, said Dan Brumfield, who helped organize the dinner. That number included approximately 160 deliveries and 130 carry-outs, he said.
The rest of the dinners were served at Center Lake Pavilion by at least 75 volunteers, said Brumfield's co-organizer, Jim Baker.
Baker said the lodge cooked 31 turkeys, 18 gallons of green beans, 16 gallons of yams and 80 pounds of ham. They also served 75 pies.
North Webster's American Legion provided Thanksgiving dinners to around 325 people, about the same as last year, the manager said today.
About 250 of those dinners were served in-house, with 50 carry-outs and 22 deliveries, he said. The Legion cooked 21 turkeys this year.
American Table Restaurant, which offers free traditional Thanksgiving dinners to patrons over age 60, served at least 150 free dinners, a representative said today.
