As a kid, Freddy Fusion's grandfather taught him his first magic trick.
Science was always his favorite subject in school.
By combining magic and science, he's developed a show he takes on tour to 37 countries and on television.
The Freddy Fusion Magic Show will be on the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center stage Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. Reserved seating is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Presented by WCHS and The Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation, tickets may be purchased through the box office at 574-371-5040, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visa and MasterCard are accepted, and there are no refunds or exchanges on tickets.
In a telephone interview Monday morning, Fusion said he's been doing the show for the last 20 years.
He has a degree in marine biology, and started learning magic tricks when he was a kid. In school, he realized how closely magic and science were related - science tries to explain the impossible, and magic tries to make the impossible possible. The United States has fallen from its No. 1 place in the world for innovation. Long gone are the days when kids would do experiments in their basement, Fusion said. When he first developed his show, he saw the need to spark an interest in kids in the sciences.
Obviously, he said, he can't teach all there is to know about science in his full-length show. However, he hopes to spark viewers' imaginations. And the show isn't just for kids, he said.
His show tours 300 dates a year in a blend of different markets, he said. He's kept extremely busy, but he "absolutely" still loves doing it.
"Every show is different. Somehow, my passion for it is still intense," he said.
Fusion said he's always working on something new for the show.
For the performance Feb. 24 at Warsaw, Fusion said, there are going to be some of his signature pieces. Then there's going to be an element of surprise, so he didn't want to reveal too much.
"I know tickets are selling fast," he said.
