AKRON - Freda L. Smoker Graham, 96, formerly of Akron, died at 3:55 p.m. Jan. 8, 2008, in Wynnfield Crossing, 1729 Wabash Ave., Rochester, where she resided.
She was born Feb. 25, 1911, in Akron, to Albert and Leona Ruth Smoker. On March 3, 1940, in Star City, she married Fred M. Graham, who died July 27, 1983.
She was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. She was a Akron High School graduate. She was an active member of Akron Church of God, where she taught Sunday school for many years, worked at Yellow Creek Camp meetings for the church and youth, was active in the prayer chain and prayer group and was part of the Goldenaires. At age 70, she started working in Culver School Systems with Wanda Howard as a volunteer teacher's aide. She enjoyed family get-togethers, gardening, cooking, reading and traveling, especially her trip to Israel to the Holy Land.
Surviving are a sister, Opal Laughman, Rochester; two brothers, Ernest (and spouse Esther) Smoker, North Manchester, and Wayne (and spouse Chaume) Smoker, Louisiana, Mo.; seven nephews, Ernie (and spouse GeNelle) Smoker, Ed (and spouse Lottie) Smoker, Dick (and spouse Janice) Smoker, Jim (and spouse Joanie) Smoker and Dennis, Matt and Mike Smoker; and four nieces, Shelby (and spouse Cliff) Wogoman, Phyllis (and spouse Emory) Smith; Susan (and spouse Larry) Beachamp and Patricia Trower. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Smoker, and a nephew, Terry Smoker.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastors Terry Canfield and Steve Fleck officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
