Fred J. Helton, 70, Warsaw, passed away at 5:20 p.m. April 21, 2016, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Oct. 17, 1945, in Prestonsburg, Ky., the son of Johnnie and Myrtle Hale Helton. On Oct. 23, 1964, in Silver Lake, he was married to Lourena Johnson, who survives in Warsaw.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 54 years, and had been employed at Dalton Foundry, Warsaw, for 46 years as a supervisor. He attended the First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County. He was a member of the Kosciusko Skeet Club and the Quarter Horse Association. He had a real passion for NASCAR and the Kentucky Wildcats.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family, which includes two sons: James (and spouse Shelley) Helton, Warsaw, and Steven L. (and spouse Alicia) Helton, Syracuse; four grandchildren: Joselyn and Matthew Helton and Spencer and Austin Davidson; a brother, Don (and spouse Janet) Helton, Silver Lake; and two sisters: Emma Slone, Silver Lake, and Elsie Dotson, Prestonsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County with Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. Interment will be at Lake View Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Calling is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.
