WINONA LAKE - The Grace College Art Department announced the next class in its Children's Art Encounters program: Frank Lloyd Wright for Kids, a mixed media class in drawing, painting and construction for grades 1 through 8. The class will meet Friday afternoons, April 13, 20, 27 and May 4 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Frank Lloyd Wright was an American farm boy from Wisconsin who became one of the world's greatest architects. Based out of Chicago, his influence is seen in many buildings throughout the Midwest.
Students will explore shapes and patterns in creation, experiment with color and texture, and build their own model of Wright's classic home, Fallingwater, designed for the department store magnate Edgar Kauffmann and his family of Pittsburgh. Voted the best all-time work of American architecture, this home over a waterfall on Bear Run in western Pennsylvania demonstrates Wright's desire to blend the work of man and nature together into spaces that reflect the freedom of the outdoors.
Student artwork from the series will be exhibited at the closing reception May 4 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. The class will be sub-divided into appropriate age groups. Teachers are Kelly Renee Kuchenbrod, art education senior from Johnstown, Pa., and Amy Keith, Children's Art Encounters Director, from Martinsburg, Pa.
The class will meet at Mount Memorial Hall on the Grace campus. Six hours of instruction and all materials are included in the $49 tuition, and siblings can take $10 off.
The Art Encounters series has been sponsored by the Grace College Art Department since 1995. The program offers quality art instruction for area youngsters while providing art education majors with additional classroom experience.
