Francis W. 'Sock' Shear

SYRACUSE - Francis W. "Sock" Shear, 89, Syracuse, died at 2:10 p.m. June 28, 2010, at Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born Sept. 1, 1920, in North Webster, to Elmer W. and Mary Sims Merriman Shear. On July 30, 1946, in North Webster, he married Ardith "Joan" Scott, who survives.

He was a lifetime area resident and attended North Webster Public Schools. He was former co-owner/operator of Socks Marina in North Webster for 10 years. He was formerly employed at Syracuse Rubber Company, Liberty Coach and a custodian for North Webster High School. He was a member of Salem Community Missionary Church, Wilmot.

Also surviving are a son, Bill Shear, Ligonier; two daughters, Brenda (and spouse Gary) Clark, Goshen, and Lisa Shear, Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Jack Stump officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salem Cemetery, Wilmot.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
