Four Valley Students Critical After Crash

FULTON COUNTY - Three current and one former Tippecanoe Valley High School students are in critical condition following a Saturday afternoon accident in Fulton County.

According to Indiana State Police, Seth A. Mathias, 17, of 5011 E. CR 650N, Rochester, was driving a 1996 Chrysler Sebring westbound on Division Road when he failed to yield the right of way to a 2001 Dodge Durango headed north on Ind. 19, and being driven by Timothy J. Richey, 33, Huntington.

Richey's vehicle struck Mathias' vehicle on the driver's side.

Mathias and three passengers in his vehicle were airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Mathias; Jessica Imel, 15, of 914 Vintage, Rochester; Trevor A. Williams, 17, of 9173 Lakeshore Drive, Akron; and Brandon D. Keller, 18, of 6779 W. Ind. 25, Rochester; all currently are in critical condition with head injuries.

Courtney L. Engle, 16, Akron, was also a passenger in Mathias' vehicle and taken to Parkview with multiple body bruises. Engle was listed in fair condition as of this morning.

According to an official with Tippecanoe Valley High School, Mathias, Engle, and Keller are all currently enrolled at TVHS, while Williams is a former student.

Richey was treated and released from Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester with a knee injury.

Richey's daughter, Samantha M. Richey, 13, was treated at Parkview for stitches above her left eye and a broken left wrist.

Three other passengers in Richey's vehicle didn't require medical attention.

Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by Fulton County Sheriff's Department, Akron Police Department, Henry Township Fire and Rescue, Fulton County EMS, Woodlawn EMS and Samaritan Air Ambulance.
