The Kosciusko County Community Foundation announced the 2009 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.
This award provides full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $800 per year for required books and equipment toward an undergraduate degree at any accredited college or university in Indiana.The 2009 recipients are Chase Byerly and Amy Green, both of Warsaw Community High School.
Chase Byerly is the son of Craig and Sherri Stoller and Lee and Tammy Byerly. He plans to attend Butler University and major in marketing or business administration.
Chase Byerly is ranked third in his graduating class; and his extracurricular activities are numerous. He is a multi-sport athlete, and has been involved in several school clubs for at least one year including National Honor Society, Student Athletic Board, Business Professionals of America and Mathletes.
Byerly demonstrated work experience and 11 different volunteer activities, three of which indicated ongoing and continued commitment.
His references described Byerly as mature, respectful, hard working, personable, a leader, committed, caring and conscientious.
Amy Green is the daughter of Brian and Tami Green. She plans to attend Taylor University and major in professional writing or communications.
Green ranks fourth in her graduating class, and her extracurricular activities are numerous including four years in choir, and one or more years in Academic Superbowl, Drama, Mathletes, National Honor Society and Creative Writing Club. She recently placed second in an international writing competition.
Green has been involved in multiple volunteer activities in three main service areas.
While balancing her academic regimen and extracurricular activities, Green also holds a part-time job.
Green's references described her as dependable, joy-filled, intelligent, principled, attentive, considerate and creative.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is a statewide program created by Lilly Endowment Inc. to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana and to leverage further the ability of Indiana's community foundations to enhance the quality of life of the state's residents.
The Kosciusko County Community Foundation is charged with recommending recipients for the award from the county. The Community Foundation uses a blind selection process during which applicant names are removed from their applications. The Foundation recommends recipients based on academics, community service, work, extracurricular involvement, essay response and references.
Since 1968, Kosciusko County Community Foundation Inc. has brought caring people and charitable endeavors together for the good of the community. The Community Foundation is a public charity, and gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
