In its most recent grant cycle, the Kosciusko County Community Foundation awarded more than $56,000 in grants from community funds for a broad spectrum of charitable projects serving Kosciusko County.
The following grants were awarded for civic projects:- Heart of Gold, $9,500, for grants in honor of those recognized for their extraordinary acts of service.
- National Philanthropy Week, $750, for grants recommended by radio show winners participating in an educational radio program.
- Kosciusko County Historical Society, $1,000, to catalog county cemeteries for GIS searches.
- The Otis Bowen Center Inc., $10,000, for items needed to provide emergency shelter for the residents of Enchanted Hills and the surrounding area in case of a natural disaster, power outages, etc.
The following grant was awarded for the environment:
- Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation Inc., $9,000, to help fund a master plan for use of an education center to help inform area residents about lake and environmental conservation.
The following grants were awarded for health projects:
- Ronald McDonald House of Indiana Inc., $1,000, to underwrite the lodging costs for Kosciusko County families with children receiving medical care in Indianapolis hospitals.
- Kosciusko County Extension Office, $1,312 for a 12-week nutrition and exercise program for area residents.
- Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana, $5,000, to provide scholarships for area girls to participate in Girl Scout health programs.
The following grants were awarded for human service projects:
- New Beginnings Preschool and Child Care Inc., $2,136, to provide enrollment scholarships for children from low-income families.
- Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County, $5,000, for operating support.
The following grant was awarded for arts and culture:
- Symphony of the Lakes Inc., $7,000, to help underwrite a one-act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti.
The following grants were awarded for educational projects:
- Junior Achievement serving Wawasee, $2,200, to provide a program for Milford sixth-graders teaching them about earning, sharing, saving and spending money.
- College Mentors for Kids, $2,500, to expand a local mentoring program connecting college students with at-risk elementary school children.
The Community Foundation accepts applications to its community funds three times each year. The next application deadline is Jan. 15. Applications and guidelines are available online at www.kcfoundation.org
