Foul Weather Forces Cancellation Of Winona Egg Hunt

Posted
WINONA LAKE – After much discussion, the Winona Lake Park Board has made the decision to cancel the Easter egg hunt scheduled for today.

According to information from Parks Superintendent Holly Hummitch, “It was not an easy decision to make, but two main factors came into play when making it:

“First and foremost in our minds is the safety of the children participating in the event. The temperature during the Easter egg hunt (today) is predicted to below 40 degrees with wind gusts of 30 mph and sustained winds of near 20 mph. These conditions will make a windchill temperature of below 32 degrees.

“Flooding at the park: There are several areas of the park, including the playground, that are currently ‘under water’ and will still be (today). These are areas where the egg hunt occurs. The predicted rains (this) morning will make these areas even worse.

“The Easter egg hunt is one of our favorite events and choosing to cancel it is not a decision that we take lightly and we hope that you understand our reasons.”
