Little children come to me sad and not knowing what to expect. Little children come to me knowing this is just what they are used to, another stranger.
They look at you with deep sadness. Are you my new mother? Will you stay around? Will you drink and do drugs? Will you get me food for my hungry stomach? Will you slap me around like what I am used to? Can I stay here in a warm bed with a warm blanket and clean sheets?
Can I go to school and make new friends? I want to have friends that like me and don't make fun of me because the way I'm dressed. Will you make me be the mommy and take care of my little sister and brother?
These are the words once from a little girl that was a little foster girl that I knew. She would come and talk to me every day. We would swing on my front porch and have a lot of conversations. She was only 11 but very grownup. I just got a visit from her.
That little girl is happy now and getting ready to finish her high school years. Much to her surprise she didn't realize what an impact she had on me. When she came into my home I introduced her to my little foster son. She got tears in her eyes and told me she was so happy!
So to all you parents out there, please read this and please stop your gambling drinking and doing drugs. There are little children who love you and depend on you.
