Fort Wayne Zoo Animals Visit Sacred HeartWhen Zoo Education Specialist Julie Walda asked Sacred Heart School students Wednesday how many of them have visited the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, most of them raised their hand.
For those who didn't, the school convocation was extra exciting as Walda brought along five animals from the zoo with her.
There was an African milipede, an Eastern Box Turtle named Golden Boy, a frog, Sherman the armadillo and a screech owl named Phoenix."Children have a natural curiosity and fascination with animals," said James Faroh, Sacred Heart principal.
"An educational experience such as this visit from the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo provides students with an excellent 'being there' experience.
"This animal presentation enhances the science curriculum, brings the study of animals alive, and provides multiple writing ideas for the classes," he said.
"This is a wonderful way to allow students to explore and learn about animals in an up close and personal manner."
While giving her presentation "Amazing Animals," Walda provided students with scientific information on animals and their classification. She made the presentation interactive, having students volunteer to help her throughout the one-hour event.
After providing students with information on each animal, Walda then opened it up to questions from the students. The most often asked questions were "Is it a boy or a girl?" and "How can you tell?"
