Only one of the Lakeland Community Concert Association’s shows takes place at the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center, and that performance is just 10 days away. The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Holiday Pops Concert is at 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at the WCHS PAC. The Fort Wayne Philharmonic can trace its origin to the Verweire Symphony Orchestra, founded in January 1924 by conductor John L. Verweire. Not long after the founding, Verweire asked his orchestra of 63 musicians to change its name to the Fort Wayne Symphony Orchestra, according to its website at fwphil.org Individual concert tickets are $20 at the door. Children 18 years old and younger may attend free when accompanied by an adult member. A 10-percent discount is available for groups of 20 or more individuals. The last concert of the LCCA season will be Cornet Chop Suey March 27 at 7:30 p.m. and will be back at Rodeheaver Auditorium in Winona Lake. The jazz band “has enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity since its arrival on the jazz scene in 2001. Best known for a wide variety of styles, Cornet Chop Suey applies its own exciting style to traditional jazz, swing, blues and ‘big production’ numbers. Every performance by Cornet Chop Suey is a high-energy presentation and is always a memorable experience for the audience,” according to information provided by LCCA.
