Posted

SYRACUSE - On Friday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m., after a busy day on the lake, head over to the Oakwood Resort by car or boat and take some time to relax, and refresh with the sound of music.
Join Chautauqua-Wawasee and Syracuse as they welcome the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra back for the summer Patriotic Pops Concert. If you plan to sit on the lawn, be sure to bring chairs or a blanket, according to a provided news release.
Arrive early for family fun. Beginning at 7 p.m., Chautauqua-Wawasee has arranged for a face painter and balloon artist to entertain children before the concert.
Children of all ages are also invited to stop by the Chautauqua-Wawasee tent for free patriotic glow necklaces, small American flags to wave during the concert, and a copy of the evening's music program. A face painter and a balloonist will be there to add to the fun.
The Fort Wayne Philharmonic, led by Conductor Caleb Young, will perform a selection of popular and orchestral music celebrating America's spirit of freedom and adventure. Featured selections include:
• The Star-Spangled Banner
• Armed Forces on Parade, honoring veterans
• Film favorites such as Suite from “Independence Day” and “Harry's Wonderful World”
• Traditional American marches and patriotic songs.
As part of the evening's festivities, concertgoers may purchase a $5 raffle ticket for a chance to win a $100 gift card from Joe's Ice Cream Supreme. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the concert.
The concert is sponsored by regional and local donors, including Steel Dynamics, Judy Pursley, The Weigand Family, Kay and James Young, Omer and Susan Kropf, Floyd and Betty Lou Lancia, Wawasee Property Owners Association, Marie Zacher Warshauer, Chautauqua Wawasee (Oakwood Foundation), Kenneth and Lela Harkless Foundation, Gregory and Susanne Hoffman, Fred and Cindy Rasp, Janellyn and Glenn Borden, Donn and Linda Baird, Tim and Vicki Fiechter.
In the event of rain, the Patriotic Pops Concert will be held in the Oakwood Resort Event Center, located just up the hill from the Oakwood Inn.
