Former Tigers Win Races At Notre DameFormer Warsaw cross country and track teammates Jake Poyner (L) and Robert Murphy had a reunion on the Notre Dame campus Friday, when they ran seperate races in the Joe Piane Invitational. Murphy won the Men’s Gold division in 24:19 while competing for IUPUI, where he’s a senior. Poyner, a senior at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., ran unaffiliated and won the Men’s Open division in 24:20 on the five-mile course. As members of the Class of 2013, Murphy and Poyner were part of a team that placed fourth in the state in their senior season. The following spring, each were members of the track team that finished fifth in the state meet. Murphy is the son of Jeff and Lynn Murphy of Warsaw, and Poyner is the son of Tim and Sue Poyner of Winona Lake.
