The local Fraternal Order of Police has issued endorsements for two local races.
FOP Lodge 149 endorsed Aaron Rovenstine for sheriff. He is one of eight candidates running for the office held by his father. Five officers from within the department are running, but Rovenstine is the only candidate who is a member of the FOP.
"His choice to be part of our organization shows his desire to make our communities a better place, regardless of who we work for," the FOP said in a prepared statement.
In the prosecutor's race, the FOP called for a change in office, but did not endorse a specific candidate. Prosecutor David Kolbe is running against fellow Republicans Chuck Waggoner and former deputy prosecutor Dan Hampton.
"The current relationship with our prosecutor's office is in turmoil. The relationship between police and the prosecutor must be based on mutual trust and respect. It is the opinion of our membership that neither exists, and a change must be made," the FOP statement said.
