Florence Valentine Shipley, 88, Goshen, died at 10:19 a.m. April 21, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Silver Lake, to Ralph and Oznola Freed Montel. On Dec. 12, 1942, in Newark, N.J., she married Jack W. Shipley who died Oct. 9, 2001.
She lived in Elkhart County since 1966, coming from Silver Lake. She was a graduate of Silver Lake High School. She was a homemaker and member of Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren. She was a former beautician who cooked at Silver Lake High School.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa (and spouse Kent) Woodiwiss, Goshen; two sons, Joe (and spouse Bev) and Jay Shipley, both of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Schumacher, Noblesville; and two brothers, Ralph (and spouse Margaret) Montel, Warsaw; Merl (and spouse Lessie) Montel, Pierceton. She was preceded in death by five sisters and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, with Pastor Tim Yoder officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
