Beulah Fleagle will serve as the new Wayne Township trustee.
She was elected Wednesday by the Republican caucus committee to replace trustee Sheila Hodges, who resigned Dec. 1.
Fleagle was up against Charles Ker and Albert Smith for the trustee position. Each candidate was given three minutes to speak.
In her speech, Fleagle said she was employed by the township for the past six years, serving as the deputy trustee for the past five years. During that time, she said, circumstances arose where she had to fulfill the duties of the Wayne Township trustee. She has attended all the state trustee conventions in the past five years.
After being appointed, Fleagle thanked the committee, the township office employees and her husband, Jim, "for putting up with me the last two weeks," she said. She promised to uphold the office in the utmost esteem.
