Editor, Times-Union: Dr. William Remington is absolutely correct that these flashing yellow left-turn signals are a terrible idea, and can be the major cause of terrible accidents. They are especially dangerous when placed on high-speed highways in rural areas, where the oncoming traffic can be traveling at 60 to 70 mph and is not prepared to or planning on stopping. When a traditional stop light is changing from green/yellow/red and a driver sees yellow they are alerted to prepare to stop or proceed quickly with caution. However, the major difference is that the oncoming traffic is stopped. Also, the signs that the state posted at these intersections are a slight help – but couldn't they have been more direct? For example: WARNING! FLASHING YELLOW ARROW DOES NOT REQUIRE ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO STOP. Get rid of flashing yellow arrows. Herb Bailey Warsaw, via email
