U.S. Army Specialist E4 Mark Vining (R) recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan and attended the Labor Day indoor picnic and auction at the American Legion Post #49, of which he is a member. He is the son of Squadron #49 Commander Fred Vining. While at the post, Mark presented Post Commander Ropy Bradbury (L)with a certificate and an American flag that was flown for the post #49 in Afghanistan. The flag was flown during a combat mission in Afghanistan on a HU-60L in support of ‘Operation Enduring Freedom.’ The flag was flown in remembrance of those who have given their lives in the fight for freedom and for those lost during the attacks Sept. 11, 2001. ‘Flown in the face of the enemy, Old Glory bears witness to the capture, detention and elimination of terrorist forces threatening the freedom of the United States of America and the world,’ the certificate stated.
