Five Hurt, Including 2 Children, In Saturday Crash

ELKHART COUNTY - Five people were hurt, including two children, when a vehicle improperly passed another vehicle and hit a third vehicle at about 4:13 p.m. Saturday.

Four of the people were from Nappanee.

According to information provided in an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, A 2020 Jeep, driven by Lillian Coffman, 18, Goshen, was traveling southwest on Ind. 119, east of CR 9. A 2014 Mercedes passenger car, driven by Cristian Andrade Palacios, 36, Nappanee, was going northeast on Ind. 119, west of CR 9. The Mercedes improperly passed another vehicle and hit the Jeep head on.

Palacios suffered neck, leg and internal injuries and was cited.

Coffman suffered a broken wrist and was taken to Goshen Hospital for a broken wrist.

All occupants of the Mercedes were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Yoselin Garcia Adame, 28, Nappanee, the front right passenger in the Mercedes, complained of back pain. Jonathan Adell, 5, Nappanee, the rear left passenger, complained of pain. Job Andrade Garcia, 1, Nappanee, the rear right passenger, suffered a broken femur.

Everyone was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Mercedes and the Jeep sustained heavy front-end damage.

The crash continues to be investigated by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, according to the release.
