MILFORD - Capt. Todd Fiscus' widow, Paula, has issued the following statement about her late husband.

Fiscus was killed along with three other soldiers in Afghanistan Saturday.

Paula Fiscus writes:

"Capt. Todd Fiscus was called to duty to serve his country in Afghanistan in June 2004 as a member of the 76th Brigade Headquarters out of Indianapolis. His mission was to help train members of the Afghan Army as part of the Coalition Joint Task Force Phoenix III. While on a scouting trip for a potential site for an army shooting range, the vehicle in which he was traveling struck a land mine. All four soldiers in the vehicle were killed.

"Todd was a dedicated soldier and distinguished officer, earning many awards for his service. He had a tremendous sense of duty. He was a man of his word and lived by the Army code. He was respected as a soldier and commander. Todd also served a tour of duty in Bosnia.

"Todd was a loving, caring, committed father, husband and son. He worked as a charter pilot out of Warsaw. He impacted the lives of his family, friends and community, and obviously, will be sorely missed by everyone.

"His family wishes to express their appreciation for the support of the community, school, family and friends.

"Further details are not yet available and will be released to the media when they are complete."
