First Friday 'Spring Break Escape' Set For April

First Friday "Spring Break Escape" is Friday in downtown Warsaw.

The event, sponsored by the Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau, is from 5 to 8 p.m. It features discounts and food specials from downtown businesses and restaurants.

People are encouraged to dress in a Hawaiian and tropical theme.

There will be a First Friday information center on the courthouse square, courtesy of First Christian Church of Warsaw.

The event will include inflatable games for children, and line dancing lessons taught by Brandon and Tina Keaffaber and their guests.

There also will be a dogs musical hoola hoop event by "One Dog At A Time Rescue Mission." Sign-up begins at 6 p.m. at the courthouse square for the line dancing and hoola hoop events.

There will be a cupcake walk organized by Sugarland Bakery and Abbey's Beads.

There will be hand massages at Expressions Day Spa and Salon.

There will be pony rides, a merry-go-round and airplane lift rides. Rides will be $1 each.

The Northern Indiana British Car Club Cruise-In will be on Center Street in front of Key Bank and Mad Anthony's.

There will be face painting and sidewalk chalk art by Kosciusko County Master Gardeners. Kids who planted daffodils during last year's First Friday can come out to see if the flowers have bloomed in the courthouse garden.

Gary Parker, Warsaw resident, will have a table set up to explain his "Community Red Petunia Project."

There will be a batting cage donated by Duane's Furniture Repair and Upholstery, and a strongman sledge hammer and high striker challenge.

The Lake City Bank and Oldies 98.3 musical vehicles will be on hand.

City-County Athletic Complex officials will provide an information booth on spring and summer activities.

There will be carnival games with a ring toss and bubble station sponsored by Owen's Grocery and Fellowship Missions.

A basketball hoop will be sponsored by Grace College Athletics.

Magical Meadows will show alpacas and miniature horses in bikinis. Caudill's ATA Blackbelt Academy will offer demonstrations.

A "How Low Can You Go" limbo contest will be sponsored by Rex's Rendezvous. Sign up begins at 6 p.m. at the information booth at the courthouse square.

Kosciusko County Historical Society at 6 p.m. will feature a couple portraying John Dillinger and "The Lady In Red," with Dillinger historical items on display. Badges will be distributed to children.

Chocolate Café & Boutique will have a scavenger hunt at 5 p.m. Prizes will be for first, second and third. There will be a 40-percent off sale.

There is a Derby Days theme First Friday planned for May 6. Joe's Garage will perform and there will be a diaper derby in support of Heartline Pregnancy and Teens and Tots. The entry fee is baby products that will be donated to the organization.Lake City Derby Dolls will exhibit their skills, Magical Meadows will do a Hobby Horse Derby, and Warsaw Community High School will have its Super Mileage Challenge car on display.

Women will be encouraged to wear Derby-style hats.
