First Friday Returns With Interactive Art On May 1

Posted
First Friday downtown Warsaw is returning for the first downtown event of the season and it will have an interactive art theme to it.

It is 5 to 9 p.m. May 7, and sponsored by the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation, city of Warsaw and Warsaw Community Development Corporation.

According to information provided by Paula Bowman, First Friday coordinator, “I’m sure that all of you are excited to be getting out and about after last year’s safety precautions, so we are inviting all those talented artists in the community to show you and teach you what they have been working on during the shutdown. This year, we are doing a few different things to showcase the talent in our community.”

Many of the local artisans will be on hand for this make-it-and-take-it event. For a nominal fee, spectators can learn how to fold origami; make your mom a Mother’s Day card,  a personal spin art picture, a sign for your house, a pet rock; check out the STEM bus and Red Bird Studio art and more.

There will be children’s projects, as well as adult projects and “everything in between,” according to the information provided, for a nominal fee.

At 7 p.m., There will be an extra large demonstration of gyroscope art, and all 26 canvases will be available for purchase after the event.

In front of Old National Bank on North Buffalo Street, there will be a job fair for those searching for a new vocation.

Face masks are suggested.

For June’s First Friday, Kosciusko Honor & Remember will conduct "Celebrate America's Veterans" downtown Warsaw on June 3 with the ceremony beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Any honorably discharged veteran who resides in Kosciusko County and has not previously been recognized or served in the Armed Forces of the United States from May 8, 1975, to present will be recognized.  Previous events have recognized living World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans.

The Lake Area Community Band will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Seating is provided for veterans. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Forms can be obtained at American Legion Post #49, VFW, The Salvation Army, McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel or Latte Lounge. Forms must be submitted by May 27. For more information, e-mail koshonor@gmail.com.
