First Friday Is About ‘Celebrating Our Local Heroes’

Start out the Fourth of July holiday weekend with First Friday downtown Warsaw on Friday.
The theme is “Hometown Picnic: Celebrating Our Local Heroes” and is 5 to 9 p.m.
Indiana Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and Ambassador Kip Tom will make special appearances, with a meet-and-greet after the Hometown Heroes Ceremony at 6 p.m.
Echoes of the Past will have a tractor display. Free food and homemade ice cream will be part of the cookout.
The True Art Company will have a live painting, and Warsaw Aero Modelers will be on hand.
First Friday is sponsored by the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation, city of Warsaw, Warsaw Community Development Corporation, Winona Lake Fire Department, Jean Northenor, Seymour Midwest, Louis Dreyfus Company, 9/11 Committee, Tony Ciriello, Craig Nayrocker, Mike Loher, Mike Cox and Dr. Bill Katip.
Other upcoming downtown events to keep in mind include:
• Aug. 6, First Friday car show.
• Aug. 7, Benefit 3-on-3 Tournament, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Center Street will close at 7 a.m. for the Farmers Market between the county courthouse and city hall. Main Street from Buffalo Street to the railroad tracks will be closed for the tournament, with Market Street open for through traffic.
• Sept. 3, First Friday with the theme of “Celebrate a New You.”
• Sept. 11, 9/11 Remembrance Parade starts at 4 p.m., from Center Lake Pavilion to Buffalo Street, to Center Street and ending at Boggs.
• Sept. 11-12, Dillinger event at the Old Jail Museum. Indiana Street from Center to Main streets will be closed 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 and 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 12.
• Sept. 18, Diversity Day with Celebrating Us in the 100 block of Center Street and on the county courthouse lawn, 1 to 5 p.m.
• Oct. 1, First Friday, “Art Tober.”
• Oct. 29, Spooktacular, 3 to 9 p.m.
• Nov. 5, First Friday, “Thanks for Giving.”
• Nov. 26, Black Friday.
• Nov. 28, Countdown to Christmas/Ornament Smash.
• Dec. 3, First Friday, “Hometown Holly Days,” with carriage rides and the return of the twinkle light parade.
