Posted
Ice sculptures will decorate downtown Warsaw Friday.

The 42 sculptures are part of the First Friday theme "Fire and Ice". The event is from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Warsaw.

Michiana Ice Carvers Association will carve the ice sculptures beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.

Businesses that sponsor the ice sculptures will have their own logo, choose their own design or have the carver choose a design.

Highlighting the night will be a 1,200-pound ice sculpture in memory of Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept. Sgt. Jeff Shaw. It will be on the southeast corner of the courthouse square.

Shaw died in a vehicle accident Nov. 12, 2009.

There also will be an eskimo or penguin ice sculpture on the southeast corner of the courthouse square where people can get their photos taken for free.

There also will be six ice sculptures with flames coming out of the tops.

During First Friday, there will be discounts by downtown merchants.

Brown Bag Deli will offer a beef and chicken stew special; BMac's will have a fish special; and Mad Anthony's will have a barbecue and drink special.

Dennie House will have coffee and gourmet food samples; Courthouse Coffee will have drink specials; Girl Scouts will sell cookies; Rex's Rendezvous will have fire kissed steaks; and at Buffalo Street Emporium children can decorate Valentines and free cider will be offered.

Creative Floral Designs will give away free hot chocolate; Abbey's Beads and Antiques will have 50 percent off select items; and Chocolate Cafe will have 40 percent off select items.

Free coffee and hot chocolate will be served outside downtown businesses by First Christian Church, Fellowship Missions and First United Methodist Church.

Smores will be provided by First Presbyterian Church youth group.

Giverny Dance Hip Hoppers will perform at 5:30 p.m. at Giverny Studio.

Kosciusko County Historical Society will have the jail open for community viewing. Children can build ice towers at the historical society, and choose a frozen coin to keep.

Live music will be performed by Mallory Moore inside Chocolate Cafe. David Haney will perform music at Courthouse Coffee, and Fair Fjola will perform an acoustic set at Reinholt's Furniture.

On Saturday, there will be a mystery scavenger hunt starting at the Chocolate Cafe at noon. People are invited to come downtown to see ice carvings and enjoy lunch specials.

February is the eighth First Friday, and a Mardi Gras themed First Friday is being planned for March.
