Fireworks Over Winona Planned For July 6

Posted

The annual fireworks display sponsored by Biomet president Dr. Dane Miller will be handled a little differently this year.

Usually held on July 4, the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence signing in 1776, this year the display will be on July 6.

Citizens who are used to watching from the county fairgrounds, open to the public on "America's birthday," will receive free admission only to the fairgrounds parking lot - if a space is available.

This year the Kosciusko County 4-H and Community Fair is June 30 through July 6. Admission costs $3 for adults and $1 for ages 10 to 15 and 65 and older.

The grandstands and track area will be filled to capacity with the NTPA activities and truck show and shine.

The east end of the fairgrounds will be open because the 4-H animal barns will be vacated following the auction July 5.

The fireworks will be shot off from a couple of places on Winona Lake and promise to be a spectacular display.

The only public property along the shores is the Winona Lake Park area. Many people traditionally park a couple of chairs along the lakefront north of the Boathouse Restaurant and in Hillside Park - this is the property of Village At Winona.

Village At Winona's Brent Wilcoxson said the company doesn't mind if people use the park, lakefront area and Village of Winona shopping area as long as they don't leave any trash behind.

A complete schedule of county fireworks displays will be published closer to the holiday.
