Posted

SYRACUSE - Syracuse Fire Department happened upon a clandestine methamphetamine lab Thursday, when they responded to a report of smoke coming from a building at 8106 E. Hatchery Road.

Investigating a possible fire, firefighters found an active meth lab in an upstairs apartment and contacted Kosciusko County Drug Task force, who also responded to the scene.

Witnesses say two people ran from the apartment just before the fire department arrived. Police found that Marvin Martin, 34, was the apartment's lesee, but Martin could not be located.

The investigation still is pending but police expect to file charges of illegal drug lab and dealing in methamphetamine against Martin. Anyone with information regarding Martin's or the second person's whereabouts should contact the task force at 372-2494.
