Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Downtown Warsaw Apartment FireA building fire downtown Warsaw Wednesday night was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
At 8:14 p.m., an apartment fire at 211 E. Center St. was reported to Central Dispatch. The apartment is on the west side of the building, facing Center Street, above Bar’lon, a barber shop. Public records indicate the building is owned by Lemler Land Holdings LLC, Silver Lake.
Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Chief Garrett Holderman said upon his department’s arrival to the scene, there was some smoke coming out of the building that broke into flames on the East Center Street side. Flames came out of the top of the building and two windows.
The fire was extinguished, the building ventilated and firefighters swept it to make sure everyone was out of the building. Once it was all clear, firefighters worked to get all the smoke out of the building. Holderman said some businesses were open at the time of the fire but they were evacuated and all cleared.
Holderman said it was quickly extinguished and there were a lot of layers to the roof.
The cause of the fire was unknown as of Wednesday night, he said, but Fire Marshal Jim Fretz was on scene to investigate.
No injuries were reported.
Holderman said Warsaw, Winona and Plain Township fire departments were doing some live fire training just down the road so they were able to respond quickly.
Warsaw Police Department kept Center Street blocked off between Buffalo and High streets, while Lutheran EMS was on standby.
