Firefighters Deal With Exploding Fireworks During Early Sunday FireLuckily, no one was hurt shortly after midnight Sunday when a building full of fireworks caught fire, but damage to the property and contents was estimated at a quarter of a million dollars.

Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory was called to Speed Rocket Fireworks, 1017 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, at 12:36 a.m. Sunday, according to WWFT Public Information Officer Max Kinsey. The battalion chief first on scene reported the fire was in a single-story building.

To battle the fire, lots of water were put on it using two different master nozzles – a Blitzfire and then a Deck gun, Kinsey said. When more fireworks exploded, all the firefighters were pulled out and more water was put on the burning building.

The cause of fire is still under investigation, Kinsey said. The estimated total loss, including property and contents, is $250,000.

According to county records, the property is owned by WDMiller Rentals LLC, 1916 E. Masters Lane, Warsaw.

Assisting WWFT at the scene were Leesburg Fire Department, Winona Lake Fire Department, Warsaw Police Department, Winona Lake Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Lutheran EMS, NIPSCO and the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office.
