Fire Station Questions

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
I attended the last meeting about the new fire station and left with lots of questions. In talking with my neighbors and friends, it seems we all have the same concerns:
1. The meeting was conducted almost like an infomercial (or sales presentation) trying to build value.
2. We were told that the reason we had to roll over the bond was that the bond rates might go up. Couldn’t the bond rates also go down? Not sure why all the urgency based on a maybe price increase.
3. It was brought up that Wayne Township could not fund its part of the memorandum of understanding. They were willing to give $250,000 initially and were not able to commit to the additional annual expense of $100,000. Does that mean the taxpayers from Warsaw city have to make up the difference?
4. Does the fire house need to be built as shown, or can there be cuts in design that do not affect the efficiency?
5. The annual operating budget for the fire department as proposed shows there are significant increases in future years.
We just want a clear understanding of the costs involved and how that money is being raised.
