Fire Season

Posted

Fire officials throughout the county are urging citizen to refrain from burning brush or trash because of the dry conditions that lead to small fires burning out of control. Warsaw and Winona Lake firefighters were called to Zolman Farms on East Pierceton Road at 2:35 p.m. Monday when a grass fire spread to a barn on the property. Grass and field fires kept firefighters from several departments in the county busy Monday, with a call to CRs 200S and 550W at 11:36 a.m. bringing the Burket Fire Department out. Similar incidents were reported throughout the day on record for North Webster, Atwood, Claypool and Sidney fire departments. Lack of rain in the fall, a mild winter and little rain since warmer weather arrived have kept the ground dry and officials said the urge to burn should be held off at least until after some spring rain.
