NORTH MANCHESTER - A 45-year-old North Manchester man died this morning in a fire at his home.
Wabash County Coroner Marilyn McDonald ruled that Curtis E. Whitmore of 12249 N. CR 400E died from smoke inhalation. No autopsy is planned. Whitmore was the only person home at the time of the fire.
According to the Wabash County Sheriff's Department, a 911 call was received at 3:03 a.m. that a double-wide mobile home was on fire near the intersection of Wabash CRs 400E and 1200N.
Chester Township Fire Department was in charge of the scene, with assistance from several area fire departments.
A cause for the fire remains under investigation and the matter was turned over to the State Fire Marshal's Office, according to Wabash County Sheriff Tim Roberts.
