Fire Hits Warsaw Apartment

Posted

A Warsaw apartment was damaged by fire Thursday afternoon.

The Warsaw fire department was called to the two-dwelling apartment building at 312 N. Union St. at 3:21 p.m. Thursday. They were advised that it was a mattress fire, but found heavy smoke around the building when they arrived.

Firefighters entered the building and contained the blaze to the bedroom of one apartment. They reportedly had the fire under control in 15 minutes.

A juvenile allegedly admitted to playing with a cigarette lighter in the bedroom of the apartment and starting the fire. The juvenile and his parents have begun counseling with members of the fire department to talk about the incident.

Damage to the apartment owned by Dewayne Buzz was estimated at $5,000. Smoke damage to both apartments forced all the residents to evacuate for the night. The bedroom of the apartment occupied by the Tim Carter family was destroyed.

No one was injured in the fire. Sixteen Warsaw firefighters responded to the call.
