SOUTH WHITLEY -ÊAn early morning fire lasted more than seven hours and destroyed two businesses in South Whitley Saturday.
At least five fire departments, including Columbia City, Richland Township, Washington Township, Larwill and South Whitley, battled the fire at 201 S. State St. that started around 2 a.m. Saturday.
The two-story brick building, which housed Key Pharmacy and the Brownstone Cafe on the first floor and held apartments on the second floor, sustained extensive fire, smoke and water damage on both levels.
At least one person was in the apartments when the fire started, but no injuries were reported.
