Fire Hits Claypool Mobile HomeCLAYPOOL – A mobile home fire Tuesday in Claypool was started by a wood burner, according to Burket Fire Department Chief Kevin McSherry.

Burket got the call about the structure fire at 9020 S. Smalley Lane, Claypool, at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. County records indicate the home is owned by Timothy James Hedrick.

“We got it knocked down quick,” McSherry said.

The wood burner was the main source of heat for the mobile home “and it got away from him,” McSherry said. The wood burner was inside the mobile home.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured, he said.

McSherry said he had help coming to find the man a place to stay, but the resident had McSherry stop that but didn’t say why.

The mobile home had a build-on to its side. McSherry said the structure was still sound, but there was heat and fire damage on the inside. He estimated the damage to be $30,000 to $40,000.

Mentone Fire Department was called for a full assist, with Henry Township on standby.

There were about 15 firefighters on scene.
