Fire Destroys Milford Barn

Posted

Strong winds hampered firefighters’ efforts to extinguish a barn fire on Mock Road, south of Milford, Friday afternoon. Milford Fire Department responded shortly before 1 p.m. to the property at 965 E. Mock Road, Milford, on the south side of Waubee Lake. The property is owned by Stanley and Natalie Stump, according to county records. Milford Fire Chief Todd Haines could not give a damage estimate but said the barn, which was full of equipment, was a total loss, and that the fire spread to some trees and the insulation beneath a mobile home on the property. The fire was out by 3 p.m. Plain Township and Turkey Creek fire departments provided a full assist, along with a tanker truck from New Paris and an ambulance from Lutheran EMS Kosciusko, though there were no injuries. Haines said the cause is still undetermined but appears to be electrical in nature.
